What is personal data?
The term “personal data” is defined in the German Federal Data Protection Act and the EU General Data Protection Regulation. It refers to any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person. This includes, for example, your legal name, address, telephone number or date of birth.
Scope of anonymous data collection and processing
Unless otherwise stated in the sections below, no personal data is generally collected, processed or used when you use our websites. However, through the use of analytics and tracking tools, we receive certain technical information based on the data transmitted by your browser, such as the browser type and version, the operating system used, the websites visited on our website, including the duration of your visit, and the website visited previously. We evaluate this information solely for statistical purposes.
Relevant legal bases for the processing of personal data
- Where we obtain the consent of the data subject for processing operations involving personal data, Article 6(1)(a) of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) serves as the legal basis for processing the personal data.
- Where the processing of personal data is necessary for the performance of a contract to which the data subject is party, Article 6(1)(b) GDPR serves as the legal basis. The same applies to processing operations that are necessary in order to take steps at the request of the data subject prior to entering into a contract.
- Where the processing of personal data is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which our company is subject, Article 6(1)(c) GDPR serves as the legal basis.
- Where the processing of personal data is necessary in order to protect the vital interests of the data subject or of another natural person, Article 6(1)(d) GDPR serves as the legal basis.
- Where processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by our company or by a third party, except where such interests are overridden by the interests or fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR serves as the legal basis for processing.

The data are deleted as soon as it is no longer necessary to achieve the purpose for which they were collected. In the case of personal data from the contact form and data sent by email, this is the point at which the relevant conversation with the user has ended. The conversation is deemed to have ended when it can be inferred from the circumstances that the matter in question has been conclusively clarified.
A live chat can also be used on the website. This gives website visitors the opportunity to contact us quickly and easily and to receive a short-term response. If you use the chat, we store the information you provide, such as the chat history, your name, the reason for your request and your IP address. Rights of the data subject
If your personal data are processed, you are a data subject within the meaning of the GDPR and have the following rights vis-à-vis the controller:
Right of access under Article 15 GDPR
You may request confirmation from the controller as to whether personal data concerning you is being processed by us. If such processing is taking place, you may request access to the following information from the controller:
- the purposes for which the personal data are processed;
- the categories of personal data that are processed;
- the recipients or categories of recipients to whom the personal data concerning you have been or will be disclosed;
- the envisaged period for which the personal data concerning you will be stored or, where that is not possible, the criteria used to determine that period;
- the existence of a right to request rectification or erasure of personal data concerning you, a right to request restriction of processing by the controller, or a right to object to such processing;
- the existence of a right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority;
- any available information as to their source, where the personal data are not collected from the data subject;
- the existence of automated decision-making, including profiling, referred to in Article 22(1) and (4) GDPR, and, at least in those cases, meaningful information about the logic involved, as well as the significance and the envisaged consequences of such processing for the data subject.
You have the right to request information as to whether your personal data is transferred to a third country or to an international organization. In this context, you may request to be informed about the appropriate safeguards pursuant to Article 46 GDPR relating to the transfer.
Right to rectification under Article 16 GDPR
You have the right to obtain from the controller the rectification and/or completion of inaccurate or incomplete personal data concerning you. The controller must carry out the rectification without undue delay.
Right to erasure under Article 17 GDPR
- You may request that the controller erase your personal data without undue delay, and the controller is obliged to erase this data without undue delay where one of the following grounds applies:
- The personal data concerning you is no longer necessary in relation to the purposes for which they were collected or otherwise processed.
- You withdraw your consent on which the processing was based pursuant to Article 6(1)(a) GDPR or Article 9(2)(a) GDPR, and where there is no other legal ground for the processing.
- You object to the processing pursuant to Article 21(1) GDPR and there are no overriding legitimate grounds for the processing, or you object to the processing pursuant to Article 21(2) GDPR.
- The personal data concerning you has been unlawfully processed.
- The personal data concerning you must be erased for compliance with a legal obligation in Union or Member State law to which the controller is subject.
- The personal data concerning you have been collected in relation to the offer of information society services referred to in Article 8(1) GDPR.
- Where the controller has made the personal data concerning you public and is obliged pursuant to Article 17(1) GDPR to erase them, the controller shall, taking account of available technology and the cost of implementation, take reasonable steps, including technical measures, to inform controllers which are processing the personal data that you, as the data subject, have requested the erasure by such controllers of any links to, or copy or replication of, those personal data.
- The right to erasure does not apply to the extent that processing is necessary:
- for exercising the right of freedom of expression and information;
- for compliance with a legal obligation which requires processing by Union or Member State law to which the controller is subject, or for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller;
- for reasons of public interest in the area of public health in accordance with Article 9(2)(h) and (i) and Article 9(3) GDPR;
- for archiving purposes in the public interest, scientific or historical research purposes or statistical purposes in accordance with Article 89(1) GDPR, in so far as the right referred to in paragraph 1 is likely to render impossible or seriously impair the achievement of the objectives of that processing; or
- for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims.
Right to restriction of processing under Article 18 GDPR
You may request restriction of the processing of your personal data under the following conditions:
- you contest the accuracy of your personal data, for a period enabling the controller to verify the accuracy of the personal data;
- the processing is unlawful and you oppose the erasure of the personal data and request the restriction of their use instead;
- the controller no longer needs the personal data for the purposes of the processing, but you require it for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims; or
- you have objected to processing pursuant to Article 21(1) GDPR, pending the verification of whether the legitimate grounds of the controller override your grounds.
Where the processing of your personal data has been restricted, these data may, with the exception of storage, only be processed with your consent or for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims, or for the protection of the rights of another natural or legal person, or for reasons of important public interest of the Union or of a Member State.
Where you have obtained restriction of processing under the conditions set out above, you will be informed by the controller before the restriction of processing is lifted.
Right to notification under Article 19 GDPR
If you have exercised your right to rectification, erasure or restriction of processing against the controller, the controller is obliged to communicate this rectification or erasure of the personal data or restriction of processing to each recipient to whom the personal data concerning you have been disclosed, unless this proves impossible or involves disproportionate effort.
You have the right to be informed by the controller about those recipients.
Right to data portability under Article 20 GDPR
You have the right to receive the personal data concerning you, which you have provided to the controller, in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format. You also have the right to transmit those data to another controller without hindrance from the controller to which the personal data has been provided, where:
- the processing is based on consent pursuant to Article 6(1)(a) GDPR or Article 9(2)(a) GDPR, or on a contract pursuant to Article 6(1)(b) GDPR; and
- the processing is carried out by automated means.
In exercising this right, you also have the right to have the personal data transmitted directly from one controller to another, where technically feasible. This right must not adversely affect the rights and freedoms of others.
The right to data portability does not apply to processing of personal data necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller.
Right to object under Article 21 GDPR
You have the right to object, on grounds relating to your particular situation, at any time to processing of personal data concerning you which is based on Article 6(1)(e) or (f) GDPR; this also applies to profiling based on those provisions.
The controller shall no longer process the personal data unless the controller demonstrates compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override your interests, rights and freedoms, or the processing serves the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims.
Where personal data concerning you are processed for direct marketing purposes, you have the right to object at any time to processing of personal data concerning you for such marketing. This also applies to profiling to the extent that it is related to such direct marketing.
If you object to processing for direct marketing purposes, the personal data concerning you will no longer be processed for such purposes.
You have the possibility, in the context of the use of information society services and notwithstanding Directive 2002/58/EC, to exercise your right to object by automated means using technical specifications.
Right to withdraw consent under Article 7(3) GDPR
You have the right to withdraw your consent to the processing of personal data at any time. The withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.
Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority under Article 77 GDPR
Without prejudice to any other administrative or judicial remedy, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the Member State of your habitual residence, place of work or place of the alleged infringement, if you consider that the processing of your personal data infringes the GDPR.
The supervisory authority with which the complaint has been lodged shall inform the complainant of the progress and the outcome of the complaint, including the possibility of a judicial remedy pursuant to Article 78 GDPR.
Automated decision-making in individual cases, including profiling
You have the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing, including profiling, which produces legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affects you.
This does not apply if the decision:
- is necessary for entering into, or performance of, a contract between you and the controller;
- is authorized by Union or Member State law to which the controller is subject and which also lays down suitable measures to safeguard your rights and freedoms and your legitimate interests; or
- is based on your explicit consent.
However, these decisions must not be based on special categories of personal data referred to in Article 9(1) GDPR, unless Article 9(2)(a) or (g) GDPR applies and suitable measures have been taken to safeguard your rights and freedoms and your legitimate interests.
With regard to the cases referred to in points a and c, the controller shall implement suitable measures to safeguard your rights and freedoms and your legitimate interests, which must include at least the right to obtain human intervention on the part of the controller, to express your point of view and to contest the decision.
Embedding of third-party services and content
Description and purpose
It may happen that content from third parties, such as videos, fonts or graphics from other websites, is embedded within this online offering. This always presupposes that the providers of this content, hereinafter referred to as “third-party providers”, can see the users’ IP addresses. Without the IP address, they would not be able to send the content to the browser of the relevant user. The IP address is therefore required to display this content.
We endeavor to use only content whose respective providers use the IP address solely to deliver the content. However, we have no influence over whether third-party providers store the IP address, for example for statistical purposes. To the extent that this is known to us, we will inform users accordingly.
We use these integrations to provide and improve our online offering.
Legal basis
The legal basis for embedding third-party services and content is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our overriding legitimate interest lies in presenting our online presence appropriately and providing user-friendly and economically efficient services. Please refer to the respective providers’ privacy information for further details.
Contractual or statutory obligation to provide personal data
The provision of personal data is neither required by law nor by contract and is not necessary to enter into a contract. You are also not obliged to provide the personal data. However, failure to provide the data may mean that you cannot use this function, or cannot use it to its full extent, in certain circumstances.
Transfers of data to third countries
The controller may transfer personal data to a third country. In principle, the controller can ensure an adequate level of protection for the processing by means of various appropriate safeguards.
Data may be transferred based on an adequacy decision, binding corporate rules, approved codes of conduct, standard data protection clauses or an approved certification mechanism pursuant to Article 46(2)(a)-(f) GDPR.
Where the controller transfers data to a third country on the legal basis of Article 49(1)(a) GDPR, you will be informed here about the possible risks of transferring data to a third country.
There is a risk that the third country receiving your personal data may not provide a level of protection equivalent to that applicable to personal data in the European Union. This may be the case, for example, if the European Commission has not adopted an adequacy decision for the relevant third country or if certain agreements between the European Union and the relevant third country are declared invalid.
Certain third countries may present risks to the effective protection of EU fundamental rights due to the use of surveillance laws, for example the United States. In such a case, it is the responsibility of the controller and the recipient to assess whether the rights of data subjects in the third country enjoy a level of protection equivalent to that in the Union and whether those rights can also be effectively enforced.
However, the level of protection for natural people guaranteed throughout the Union by the General Data Protection Regulation must not be undermined when personal data are transferred from the Union to controllers, processors or other recipients in third countries or to international organizations. This also applies where personal data are subsequently transferred from a third country or an international organization to controllers or processors in the same or another third country, or to the same or another international organization.
